                           Yiwu Lotus Root Festival

in Chengxi Street, the field lotus planting covers 4600 Mu, which can gain annual production values of 30 million Yuan. The net income of planters can reach 20 million Yuan. The Donghe field lotus sells far to the other 17 cities and provinces such as Beijing, Shanghai and Heilongjiang, which has been awarded Famous Brand and Brand Product in Jinhua City. Since 2001, the community annually hold Lotus Root competition, which has been upgraded into Lotus Root Festival in 2004. And the festival

has become an important support and platform for Donghe field lotus brand, promoting the lotus industry.

                                              Yiwu Brown Sugar Festival

In order to protect and develop Yiwu’s brown sugar industry, uphold the culture of brown sugar and enhance its popularity, Yiwu municipal government decides to hold Brown Sugar Festival annually in Yiting Town from 2005. Now it is the fourth session in 2010. Except for the main venue Xilou Village, there are six other sub-venues including Xiantian Village, Xitian Village, Wangqian Third Village, Baozhai Village, and Zaoxitang Village. Since the festival has been held for four times, the sub-venues are more and more, which also indicates that the prospect of brown industry will be broader and broader here

                                                        Yiwu Water Splashing Festival

There are more than 900 people in Daqiao Village, Chi an Town and they annually celebrate the Splashing Festival for about one week during the Dragon Boat Festival. The custom has been handed down for more than 100 years. The old peasants say that the volunteer fire brigade (They call it “Water Dragon”)was setup in 1940s to prevent the fire hazard. In the following days, the brigade has been playing an important role in fire fighting for the local village and around. In order to improve their fighting skills, the brigade will conduct a fire-fighting rehearsal on the day of Dragon Boat Festival. Besides the firemen, the villages are also crowded out of curiosity. During the rehearsal, the firemen are all soaked with water. Meanwhile, the water may splash to the villagers. Everyone feels honored to shoulder the responsibilities to fight against the fire, so they have no compliant about that. What is more, they think it

is lucky. In the end, they just simply use the basin to splash the water to each other…….Then, it

gradually grows to Wiyu’s characteristic Water Splashing Festival.

It is formerly called China Yiwu Commodities Fair, which was setup in 1995 and upgraded into an international fair. It is also sponsored by the Commerce Department.
